It's hard to believe that January is already finished! It was nice to have a little rain - the perfect time to sprinkle the wildflower seeds donated by the Theodore Payne Foundation. We'll look forward to seeing what blooms in spring.
Last week the younger students continued to learn about seeds, and Mr. Lewis' class helped to rake up some of the overabundance of ash leaves. While we worked, we talked a little about mulch and why California Native Plants don't really like too much of it. Mr. Zawacki's class had a great demonstration about gas - what it can do, even if we can't see it - using Diet Coke and Mentos.
There were new birds spotted in the Nature Center too- a California Towhee, Lesser Goldfinches, White Capped Sparrows and even a hawk (probably a Cooper's) on the hunt, that flew by too quickly to identify.
