We had the Green Kids join representatives from the El Dorado Audubon Society to do the Great Backyard Bird Count. They saw nine different species of birds in our Nature Center. Thanks to a generous donation of bird seed from the Society, our birds are happy to hang around!
For the students visits, we wrapped up our look at seeds and began looking at our animal visitors. Besides the birds, we looked at caterpillars, butterflies, bugs, pillbugs, ants and bees. As more things get planted, we'll be seeing many more visitors coming.
The Garden Club is beginning to fill in the raised vegetable beds, with seed planting to begin this week. Cleanup and mulching continue, and the turtle cage is getting a small makeover by the Green Kids. Thanks to them and Mrs. Martinez' class for cleaning up the surprising amount of trash being revealed under the leaves and brush.
We are happy to announce that Armstrong Garden Centers will begin a relationship with the Niemes Nature Center and Garden and are donating a $100 gift card that will be used to purchase the first of our new dwarf fruit trees.
Please come visit and see what your children are accomplishing and learning about!
